Coronavirus and the politics of blame
|3 June, 2020||Filled under Forthcoming Events, Uncategorized||
It is still too early for us to fully understand the effects of the Coronavirus in different societies, demographics and political systems around the world. While scientific opinion has emphasised the limitations of existing knowledge and problems about predicting the course of the virus, leading broadcasters and politicians seem to have thrown caution to the wind, casting blame on political rivals, attacking citizens for breaking the Lockdown and promoting their own opinions on what has gone wrong and what needs to be done. It is right that Government should be held to account by opposition parties and an independent media, but is the sound and fury of the political blame game standing in the way of better public understanding on effective policymaking?
Dates and speakers to be announced later this month.
